Another great gig in the sky

Rumors have been floating around about this one for weeks and now it's confirmed. The most famous lineup of Pink Floyd -- Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright -- will reunite in London July 2 for the Live 8 concert.

(And this only makes London's Live 8 lineup all that much stronger, with Pink Floyd joining a bill that also includes some of music's biggest stars including Paul McCartney, Elton John, Coldplay, the Cure, Madonna, R.E.M. and U2. Philadelphia's Live 8 show, meanwhile, comes off like a light-rock snoozefest with Rob Thomas, Sarah McLachlan, Maroon 5, the Dave Matthews Band and Bon Jovi.)

Waters, of course, left the band after 1983's "The Final Cut" and later sued Gilmour and Mason for using the Pink Floyd name without him.

No word yet if they'll go on to tour, but you can bet there are offers on the table that will make the foursome enough dough to keep them in inflatable pigs for some time to come.

This show should be amazing. I saw Roger Waters solo at Glastonbury a few years ago, and even without the rest of the band it was just tremendous. (Some called Waters the best Pink Floyd tribute band on the planet.) If sound can be said to have a "size" this was one of the biggest shows I've ever heard.

I'll be in Hyde Park the weekend before this show for the 02 Wireless Festival, but if I can figure out how to get in for Live8 I will definitely beam a report back across the pond.

Well, I'm officially jealous. I'm not a huge Pink Floyd fan by any stretch, but after I heard this news, it got me all tingly inside.
